Giấy xác nhận từ chính quyền địa phương tại Việt Nam do người thân ở Việt Nam xin — không gửi từ Hoa Kỳ. Giấy chứng tử Hoa Kỳ có thể xin cấp lại nên HSVM lo phần đó. Quý vị chỉ cần gửi thông tin và bản chụp. The local endorsement in Vietnam is obtained by a family member there — nothing is sent from the US. The US death certificate can be reordered, so HSVM handles that. You send information and scans only.

Vì sao? CRDA là giấy chứng tử chính thức của Hoa Kỳ cho công dân qua đời ở nước ngoài. Giấy này cần cho việc giải quyết tài sản, bảo hiểm và các thủ tục khác tại Hoa Kỳ. Why? When a US citizen passes away in Vietnam, US institutions - insurance companies, Social Security, banks - need an official record recognized as the equivalent of a death certificate, and that's exactly what the Consular Report of Death provides. The local Vietnamese death certificate has to come first, so setting realistic expectations about that timeline matters as much as the paperwork itself, especially during an already difficult time.

Filing a final tax return works almost exactly like any other year's return, with one key difference: who has the legal authority to claim any refund. Getting that one detail right - and knowing that a Power of Attorney no longer works once someone has passed - prevents unnecessary delays during an already difficult time.
